  • Br. Lee Colombino , SJ

    Occupation: Retreat Team
    Email: LColombino@jesuitretreathouse.org
    Phone: 920-231-9060
7.2020 Br. Lee S. Colombino, SJ, entered the Society of Jesus in 1998 and, as a Jesuit, he has spent most of his time in the classroom—either as a student or as a teacher, most recently having taught in the Fine Arts Department at Loyola Academy in Wilmette, IL (2012-2016). Prior to coming to Jesuit Retreat House (JRH), Lee completed the Master in Spirituality program at Loyola University of Chicago—Institute of Pastoral Studies. Lee is deeply grateful to have had this time devoted to studying the spiritual life and the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, as well as deepening his own relationship with Christ and learning the art of spiritual direction.

Lee feels most fortunate to be missioned to JRH and to become part of the ‘JRH family’. Lee also feels very blessed to be able to live and work in the quiet environment of the retreat house—a perfect environment to continue to explore the relationship between his spiritual life and his artistic practice. Lee finds a wonderful dialogue between his artistic process and his spiritual journeys in life. He is particularly inspired by the creation story of Genesis 2, in which the Lord God creates by means of forming matter and breathing life into that matter; and, all of this happens as a process over time. This is very much how Lee has experienced God working within his life. Lee is also tremendously grateful for this time to grow in the Society’s mission of journeying with people who are making the Spiritual Exercises and providing our retreatants with a deep sense of hospitality and cura personalis as they seek to grow in God’s love.

  • Ms. Susan Philipp

    Occupation: Business Manager
    Email: sphilipp@jesuitretreathouse.org
    Phone: 920-231-9060
In 1983, Sue Philipp, JRH’s Business Manager, began a journey with the retreat house that has lasted 30 years. She moved to the Oshkosh area with her family that year and didn’t realize a major change was coming her way. Sue’s mother, who was employed at JRH as a cook and housekeeper, knew that her daughter was looking for work and suggested that she apply at the retreat house. According to Sue, “I had never heard of the Jesuit Retreat House but found out it was very close to my new home and that it was an “inn” of sorts. My maiden name in German means innkeeper so it seemed quite fitting to me that I work at an “inn”. I drove over, met with Fr. Gladstone, SJ the director at that time, applied for the job, and he hired me on the spot. My new journey as a JRH employee started the following day.” During her first 6 years, Sue worked as a part time housekeeper, laundry person and dining room server as well as helping out in maintenance and dabbling in the JRH gardens. In 1989, Director Fr. Jack Rainaldo, SJ asked if Sue would consider taking the fulltime bookkeeper position. Sue recounts, “I accepted the position and started work as the bookkeeper but the job kept evolving and over time I was asked to manage the main office, HR matters, payroll, the IT system, supervise housekeeping and assist the Director in administration.” During her 30 years, Sue has seen staff and program changes as well as many remodeling and construction projects. All of these changes have enhanced the prayerful environment and created additional sacred space to welcome home retreatants each year to JRH. “I am excited about the future of JRH and I’m looking forward to helping to create new memories here on this holy ground.”
  • Mr. Jeffrey Martin

    Occupation: Chef
    Email: jeffjoemartin@gmail.com
    Phone: 920-231-9060
Jeff Martin, chef and kitchen manager at the Jesuit Retreat House, continues to carry on the JRH tradition of helping retreatants to not only feed their souls but also to nourish their bodies as well. Jeff learned to cook while growing up in a family of eight in Oshkosh. He began his career in the food industry by washing dishes and doing short-order cooking for local restaurants. Eventually, Jeff’s faith journey led him to attended three (3) retreats at the Jesuit Retreat House over a one year period. He really enjoyed each retreat. And, as the Holy Spirit sometimes works, a door opened for him at the retreat house in 2002 and he walked through it. By God’s hand, he has been JRH's chef for the last 12 years.
